The 404th Signal Company officially descends from Company B 90th Signal Operations Battalion which was organized at Camp Shelby, Mississippi on 25 August 1944.

The company arrived in the European theater of operation in January 1945 and saw service in France, Belgium, and Germany receiving battle credits for participation in the Ardannes-Alsace, Central Europe, and Rhineland Campaigns.

The unit was re-designated the 4034th Signal Operations Company on 29 May 1945.  It embarked from Marseilles, France on 18 August 1945 for the United States and was inactivated at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey on 21 November 1945.

On 10 November 1948, the 4034th Signal Operations Company was re-designated the 404th Signal Telephone and Telegraph Company and assigned to the organized reserves.  It was activated as a Unit of the 5th United States Army on 18 November 1948 with home station at Waterloo, Iowa.

The unit was re-designated to the 404th Signal Company (Communications Center Operations) on 10 October 1961 and on 15 October that year was called to active duty during the Berlin crisis with home station at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.  Release from active duty occurred on 14 August 1962 and the unit was again reassigned to the 5th United States Army with home station at Waterloo, Iowa.

On 16 November 1983, the 404th Signal Company was changed to a Corps Area Signal Company.

Unit inactivation orders were received on 19 June 1993 with an effective date of 15 October 1993.
